USCIS updated rescreening and vetting process

APR 27 , 2026

Reports indicate that USCIS has placed a temporary hold on some immigration adjudications nationwide, including adjustment of status and asylum cases.

This is linked to a new security vetting process that began on April 27, 2026, which requires many applicants to resubmit fingerprints, even if biometrics were previously completed before that date.

The updated screening system is expected to affect pending cases that require biometric checks, including family petitions and naturalization cases. The length of delays remains unclear.

According to reports, the change is tied to expanded access by USCIS to FBI criminal history databases as part of a federal executive order.

USCIS updates on adjustment of status

MAY 22, 2026

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) has issued a new policy memo clarifying that adjustment of status will be considered only in limited or extraordinary circumstances.

According to the guidance, most applicants may be required to pursue consular processing through the Department of State outside the United States. USCIS officers are instructed to review each case individually and consider all relevant factors when determining eligibility for this form of relief.

This update may impact how certain immigration cases are evaluated moving forward.
